A practical starting point

What careers can I explore without a degree?

Start with the work itself, then check the entry route for the exact job. Paid apprenticeships, employer training, certificates and experience can open different doors. A career category alone won’t tell you what qualifications you need.

What that can look like

Someone curious about fixing things might compare an electrical apprenticeship with an entry-level maintenance role. They’d check actual openings, training requirements, pay during training and the work schedule before committing.

Illustrative example, not a promise of an outcome.

One thing you can do today

Choose two roles. Read three local job postings for each and separate required qualifications from preferred ones. Don’t pay for training until you’ve checked what it qualifies you to do.

Check requirements with BLS Occupation Finder, My Next Move and Apprenticeship.gov. Requirements vary by role, employer and location.

Put it to work

Up to three directions to compare, example roles, entry routes and questions to investigate.

Estimated time: 5–10 minutes to start; research takes longer. No account needed.
